"Ruby Delights" Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"Ruby Delights" ©2015 Niki Gulley
24" x 12" textured mixed media on canvas

Inspired from a wonderful trip to Provence, I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Set beneath floating clouds and an azure blue sky on a beautiful day in springtime with the poppies and wildflowers in full bloom, I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

"Ruby Delights" and several of my contemporary impressionistic landscapes are also on display at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. For more information, please contact http://www.goodartcompany.com/gac/.

Flutter by Kay Wyne

24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Thick strokes of oil are built up on the canvas creating texture.  The palette knife was much tool of choice on this painting.  I had to be careful not to mix up the colors once I put paint on the canvas...I could of easily created mud.  I was able to let the bold colors bounce off of each other.  This contemporary dragonfly is for sale.  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Niki Gulley is please to announce the opening of her new studio!!

I am super excited to announce the opening of my new studio. After years of working in a confined space, I now have more than enough room to work on several large paintings at a time, to teach my classes and display my artwork. It's been a dream come true!

The studio is located just a mile south of my previous space, now in the White Rock Lake area.  The room has plenty of natural light, ventilation and easels. You can choose to paint standing or sitting down, whichever you prefer.  My goal is to make my students as comfortable as possible so they can really express themselves in their painting.

Please visit my website for more information about upcoming classes and Art Treks.  I'd love to have you in my next class. Or, drop me an e-mail if you'd like to view some of my most recent paintings and you're in the DFW area.

New Tuscany Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Spring's Escape," Tuscany ©2015 Niki Gulley
24" x 24" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas set inside an espresso floater frame

Inspired by our travels to Italy, cypress trees rise out of the vast open landscape signaling that you have arrived in Tuscany! Perched on a hilltop with its long curving driveway, this villa is set against the perfect backdrop for a romantic escape. Rows of soft wheat sway in the breeze and draw your eye back to the rolling hills and beautiful billowing clouds. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this canvas is loaded with movement, color and dimension.

"Spring's Escape" and several of my contemporary impressionistic landscapes are also on display at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. For more information, please contact http://www.goodartcompany.com/gac/.

Big Guy by Kay Wyne

Big Guy
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Painted on a heavy-duty 2 1/2" thick gallery wrap canvas, this rooster is looking for a new home.  As you can see in this pic, the sides are painted and a frame is not necessary.
Through out most of the painting, the paint was applied with thick, bold strokes with the palette knife.  The application of paint created texture on the canvas.  This contemporary rooster was named Big Guy because of his imposing stance.  The rooster is bold and bossy, and would be a conversation starter in any room.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  Kay

Irises and Tulips by Filomena Booth Acrylic ~ 40" x 40"
Irises and Tulips
40"x40"x1.5"
Acrylic on Canvas
 Sold

A couple of years ago, I received a beautiful bouquet of pink tulips and purple irises for Mother's Day.  I decided to take a few pictures of the arrangement and try to capture the lush colors on canvas.  After several days of working of this huge canvas, I finally reached that point when I knew I was finished and there was nothing more to add.

Today, the painting found a new home and I'm a little sad to see it go.  But, I know that it will go on to bring a little color, and hopefully, some joy to someone else.

Last painting of the day facing away from the sun looking towards the Galveston Bay Channel that leads out into the Gulf. Galveston is on the right and Pelican Island on the left. Below is a shot of the painting as I painted it. Not a lot of traffic in the channel except this one massive ship that passed by and a tug you can see in the photo. Couple of ships were docked in the distance in the painting.

Life's a Breeze Peonies
by Nancy Medina

Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Life's a Breeze Peonies is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio. Since the day was chilly and slightly wet out, the pugs stayed in the studio with me all day, hunkered down as if they lived in the Alaskan tundra. I love these cozy days in the studio, with all my office helpers snoring and tossing toys around while I work. I used one of my favorite recipes for pink in creating Lifes a Breeze, and here's how you mix it. Read more...

Blowing In The Wind by Kay Wyne

Blowing In The Wind
30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Aspens - Palette Knife Painting
My painting for the paint challenge was a scraper.  Just didn't make the cut, so I am posting one of my contemporary aspen paintings.  I usually choose a square or vertical format for my aspens, but Blowing In The Wind is on a heavy duty (thick and chunky) horizontal stretcher bars.  I used bold colors, brushes and the palette knife.  The trees are thick and textured, as are the leaves that are falling.  This painting is for sale....contact Kay for purchasing information.  It is ready for a new home!  Thanks, Kay

Garden Party Iris - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina Art

 Garden Party Iris
by Nancy Medina
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Garden Party Iris is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio. One of my friends asked me if I paint every day. The answer is yes, unless I'm on an airplane on my way to teach a workshop, I paint every day. I've been painting every day for about 7 years now. I have a condition called the Daily Painters Compulsion. I'm pretty sure I should be on some sort of strong medication for it.

Today I went to the store for lemons and found yet another new vase. Then I saw these iris, and then the delphiniums, and then bunches and bunches of fresh peonies. Then I saw a really cute green roller bag I could use on the plane to stuff my treasures in for my trips to and from workshops. I won't tell you what my grocery bill ended up being, for that bag of lemons, but let's just say this is how things rapidly spiral out of control, when I'm allowed to go shopping with no adult supervision whatsoever.

The clouds on this day just started to open up late evening. The photo below of the setup doesn't show that as the camera blew out the sky, bright white as the focal length was pretty short. However, your in luck as I painted it just like I saw it and tweaked it from memory once I got home. Mostly just to tidy it up a bit. Yesterday it was a gusher for this area and a lot of fields were flooded and still are as the ground was still pretty wet from the previous week. This usually doesn't happen this time of year that I know of, usually summer or fall.

New Bluebonnet Palette Knife Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"April Rhythms," Texas Hill Country ©2014 Niki Gulley
36" x 35" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, April Rhythms is loaded with texture, color and movement. Repeating patterns, shapes and hues in the blooms, sky and distant mesquite trees unite foreground and background and add to the harmony of spring's symphony.

Once in a blue moon I'll do a interior painting. This just caught my eye the lighting hitting the floor with some boards laying down and some other misc stuff off to the side. Below is a shot of my easel while painting the scene. I tried to keep the light that I used from lighting up the scene I was painting but I needed some light to see while I was painting so it made for a bit of a lighting challenge. I could tell the light lightened up a little bit of the scene but for the most part it is pretty close.

New Sunflower and Lavender Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

"Sunny Life," Provence ©2015 Niki Gulley
30" x 48" textured oil painting

Sunny Life is inspired from one of the amazing locations we take our students to on our Provence Art Trek. We actually set up our easels in this gorgeous lavender and sunflower field, where the flowers seem to stretch forever. The color and aroma explosion were out of this world – a painter's and photographer's dream come true. Words can't even describe how special that moment was to paint there surrounded by all that beauty!

Taking my plein air sketch that I painted on location above, I set to capture that joyous feeling back in my studio. Pulling in closer to the sunflowers so you could see their beaming faces and get a sense of their scale, I added a few more color surprises to add to the happy mood (and I didn't have to worry about getting too close in fear of bee stings in the studio!) I hope you, too, experience the beauty and contentment of being in Provence through my painting.

White Rhapsody Rose Arbor and Braving the Harsh Elements in the Florida Wilds - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina Art

http://nancymedina.fineartstudioonline.com/workszoom/1659269

White Rhapsody Rose Arbor
by Nancy Medina
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

White Rhapsody Rose Arbor is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, the landscapes are still calling my name and rose arbors are one of my favorite things to paint (and photograph) in the whole wide world. I have so many great images from Coronado, California, but White Rhapsody is based on the bougainvillea rose arbor we painted plein air in Florida last spring. You may recall that this was the "kinder, gentler" plein air class I taught where we provided tables and chairs under the beautiful Florida sun and 'neath the swaying palms. Once we were all set up and happy, content with knowing the owner of the property was quite happy we were painting his flowers, the neighbor's sprinkler system went off, making us all run for high ground. Just goes to show, you must be prepared for everything nature, and lawncare, throws at you whilst braving those harsh elements painting in the wild...

High Tide
30"x30"x1.5"
Acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This exciting, textural abstract painting on canvas depicts the movement of the ocean waves as the high tide comes in.  Having lived on the Gulf coast of Florida, we rarely saw a tide come in with much force.  But on the Atlantic side of the state, the ocean rushes in quickly, washing away anything that is in its way.

Would you believe I did not use brushes when I painted this large canvas?

Would you like to learn how to loosen up your painting skills and experience the freedom of painting intuitively?
Well, I am excited to announce that I am offering a 3-day acrylic abstract painting workshop on March 6 - 8.

New Aspen Tree Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Fall Fusion" ©2015 Niki Gulley
24" x 48" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

I wanted this painting to be about the power and energy in nature to invigorate your spirit, so I chose to use warm vivid colors and thick staccato strokes to add to that feeling. I placed the fall foliage in diagonal sweeping shapes to create a sense of movement, so that you can feel the wind gently rustling the leaves and causing them to dance on a beautiful fall day.

Enjoying getting out to paint as much as I can which is few to less. This painting and the painting in the next post were painted today. I'm showing the best of the bunch. There was one other I liked but didn't quite pull it off so I will save that spot for another day. This view is right on top of the Seawall which basically goes all the way down to the end of the island. Further down into the background is where I painted the next painting called "Beach Road". I didn't even make it to the beach this day to many good views to paint.

Original Contemporary Modern Art Abstract Paintings by Filomena de Andrade Booth

January Ice
36"x36"x1.5"
Acrylic on canvas

January Ice is an original abstract painting on canvas.   The large, lightly textured canvas is stretched on 1.5" deep wood bars.  The sides are painted in a rich, shimmery gray/black micaceous iron oxide so that framing is not necessary.  It is signed on the side, dated and signed on the back.  The painting is wired and ready to hang.  A Certificate of Authenticity is included.  Free shipping within the US.

Although I live in central Texas, and it rarely gets very frosty in the winter, I do remember cold, icy winter days after living in northern states for many years.  This painting was inspired by those memories of snowy days and trees coated with shimmery layers of ice.  Sunlight shining through the prism of ice created a glistening scene that still brings back memories.

Prints of this painting will be available soon.

Kind of a wet day as in the aftermath of a rain storm. Today was dry and nice blue skies once in a while. This is at East Beach and the road was pretty much drenched from the rain. Below you can see some vehicles as they passed. it didn't take to long for the water to settle after each one drove by which made it kind of interesting since it was a rush to capture some of the light before the water was disturbed.
