Out On A Limb by Kay Wyne

Out On A Limb
16" x 16" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Painting
This is George, the mascot of Gecko Hardware in Lake Highlands.  He has several first place premium blue ribbons from the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo and the State Fair of Texas for best Orpington.  I have used him as a model for several paintings.  This one is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  Now that George has a egg-laying chicken with him at Gecko, there will be more chicks to paint!  Thanks for looking at this blog...Kay

Big Guy by Kay Wyne

Big Guy
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Painted on a heavy-duty 2 1/2" thick gallery wrap canvas, this rooster is looking for a new home.  As you can see in this pic, the sides are painted and a frame is not necessary.
Through out most of the painting, the paint was applied with thick, bold strokes with the palette knife.  The application of paint created texture on the canvas.  This contemporary rooster was named Big Guy because of his imposing stance.  The rooster is bold and bossy, and would be a conversation starter in any room.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  Kay

Gertrude by Kay Wyne

Gertrude
8" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Rooster and Chicken Series
$100
Gertrude is a small chicken painted on a panel.  I used a new Monarch Bright #10 on this painting...there is nothing like painting with a new brush!  It was really cold and windy outside, so I don't feel like I got a great photo...will need to re-do that.  Her comb is heavy and falling off the canvas.  Contact Kay for info on Gertrude.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Rooster by Kay Wyne

Rooster
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Series
I just finished this rooster after working on it for several months.  I would work on him, and then get pulled away to do something else.  He is standing in tall grass, looking for a new home.  This is on a gallery wrap canvas, so framing is not necessary.  I need to give this guy a name, but it just hasn't happened.  Let me know if you have any suggestions for a good name for this rooster.  This is day 7 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.  Be sure to check out all of the neat art posted on her blog.  Thanks for looking at this blog...have an artful day.  Kay Wyne

Rush Hour Rooster
by Nancy Medina
10X10
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Rush Hour Rooster was one of the most colorful personalities I met while visiting San Juan Bautista Mission in Central California. He and his harem were in a quite a hurry when I nabbed a few photos - after all, the dinner bell was ringing! I can't think of a better way to show the new year has rushed in - can you believe it's 2015? Before we know it, it will be 2035 and we'll all be living on space pods with faux ocean breezes blowing in through our hologram beach scene windows! Hopefully warm beach scenes.....

I hope you have had a wonderful 2014 - I asked my art friends to share their favorite 2014 memories on my Facebook page this week, and the winning entry will receive an original 20X16 hydrangea painting. Some of the entries made me cry, some made me laugh, you can see them all right here. I'd love to hear from you. Thank you so much for joining me for this wild and crazy, artful and colorful year. May 2015 bring you incredible amounts of color and joy!

George Being George by Kay Wyne

George Being George
12" x 16" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
George, was sitting in his cage up at Gecko Hardware Store in Lake Highlands when I visited him last week.  He was perched up on a branch, taking in the wonderful fall weather.  I put the chicken wire in the background of this painting...or at least implied it.  He was sitting there, just being George.  Therefore, the title, "George Being George". I used thick layers of paint, along with the palette knife to  paint this canvas.  The gallery wrap canvas is is painted on the sides, so no frame is needed.  Contact ME for more information on this painting...It is drying at the studio.  Thanks for looking....Kay
