At Last by Kay Wyne

At Last
24" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Needs a frame.
This still life painting was inspired by the beautiful violet tulips that were in the studio last week after the reception and exhibit for Lynn Rushton.  A celebration of Lynn's Master's Thesis brought so many of her friends and family together for a wonderful evening.  This floral arrangement was one of several that spoke to me...and so I am dedicating this painting to Lynn finishing her Master's Thesis.....At Last.  Feel free to contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Thanks, Kay

Spring Fever Tulips by Nancy Medina Art

Spring Fever Pink Tulips
by Nancy Medina
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Spring Fever Pink Tulips was one of five class demonstrations during my workshop in the Texas Hill Country this weekend. Visiting Fredericksburg, Texas, is always a treat, and we were just on the verge of what may be the best bluebonnet bloom season in quite some time, thanks to the wet winter that is behind us now. Students from Ireland, Michigan, Colorado, and across Texas painted tulips, hydrangeas, sunflowers and French landscapes, fueled by fresh fruit kolaches and cookies made from scratch, courtesy of our talented multi-tasking energizer bunny hostess Jane!

I did emphasize to everyone our holiday theme, encouraging everyone to come up with a few bunny jokes, because, everybunny needs somebunny sometime, right? Take a peep at my new Web Site to a see a slide show of the students hard at work!

And here's a little joke for you!

What is invisible and smells like carrots? Answer - Bunny farts!

One Woman Show Featuring Niki Gulley at the Good Art Company Gallery

"October Rhythms" ©2015 Niki Gulley
36" x 48" textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas

I find being immersed in nature can have such an uplifting effect, and I wanted to share that feeling with you in October Rhythms. I chose pure, intense reds and yellows contrasted against autumn golds and chocolates to create an fall forest that vibrates with color, energy and sound. The repetition in the aspen trunks and foliage patterns, combined with the flickering tones of the breeze rustling the leaves reminded me of a symphony in the forest so I titled this painting October Rhythms.

"October Rhythms" along with several of my new palette knife paintings will be featured in my One Woman Show, hosted at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. New Orleans Garden District Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"Oak Beauties," New Orleans  ©2015 Niki Gulley
12" x 9" palette knife oil painting

On our plein air painting and photography workshop my husband and I taught in New Orleans this fall, we rode the trolley to the Garden District and set out to capture the beautiful architecture so distinctive of the area. I was attracted to this grand pink house, and in particular I loved the huge old oak tree framing it. The dappled light hitting the trunk was so striking that I decided to accentuate that in my painting with a multitude of colors and values while making the background soft to keep the composition from becoming too cluttered. The sheer size and age of the trees in New Orleans is incredible, which I set out to show juxtaposing the massive oak against the smaller two-story homes in the distance. Created with palette knife and a lot of oil paint, this canvas is loaded with texture and uplifting colors so that you feel the joy and energy of hanging out in New Orleans.

"Oak Beauties" along with several of my new palette knife paintings will be featured in my One Woman Show, hosted at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. If interested in more information on pricing or purchasing this palette knife New Orleans painting, please contact The Good Art Company.

New "Golden Tangle" Fall Foliage Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"Golden Tangle" ©2015 Niki Gulley
9" x 12" textured oil on canvas

I painted this golden oak at White Rock Lake last fall. I loved how the canary yellow leaves glowed from the late afternoon sun as it illuminated the foliage from behind. Being backlit, the trunk went an inky velvet black and all of its gnarly limbs popped against that gilded backdrop, which I accented with flecks of crimson. Created with palette knife and a lot of thick oil paint, this canvas is loaded with texture, uplifting color and energy.

Price: $150 + s/h

Today was a stay at home day, no traveling, so I looked around to find something interesting to paint and found this rubbish pile. Nice day to paint but the clouds and sun were playing with me again until it calmed down some about twenty minutes toward the end and was able to pull in closer to what I was interested in.

Go Big, Go Bold Abstract Painting Workshop in Marble Falls, Texas!

Go Big, Go Bold
Abstract Painting Workshop

March 26 - March 28
Highland Arts Guild
318 Main St.
Marble Falls, Texas

$350.00

This fun, 3-day workshop is for the intermediate and advanced artist who is familiar with painting in acrylics and wants to loosen up by  experimenting  with innovative techniques of applying and manipulating paint on canvas.

We will begin each day with a demo and a short discussion on how to establish a good composition.  Once that is done, we will dive right in and start having fun by applying paint loosely with brushes, tools and even hands!  We will learn how to paint intuitively, allowing the painting to lead the way and establish its own "voice".

Students are encouraged to work on large canvases,  allowing  them the freedom to break loose and enjoy the painting process with no stress and lots of fun!

Don't miss this opportunity to explore new techniques while you have fun painting with a great group of fellow artists!

I will begin the workshop with a video showing a collection of my paintings, followed by a painting demonstration.  I will share my thought process as I work my way through the completion of a painting.  Painting intuitively is a journey and the destination is never guaranteed, but the journey is exciting and fun!

My goal is to encourage and guide you on your abstract painting journey.

I hope you will be able to join us this week in beautiful Marble Falls, Texas!

Contact me for more information.

Misty by Kay Wyne

Misty
30" x 30" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting needs a handsome frame.
This palette knife painting has gone through many changes, with layers and layers of color.  I moved and pushed the paint around, changed the colors, changed the horizon line and the path.  It was a misty and moody day in Dallas...and I saw alot of the greys, lavenders and the start of spring green when I painted this.  It has an impressionistic feel to it.  I don't know how long it will take to dry, even with the impasto.....but I think it will look nice framed up.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog.....Kay

New "Marching into Autumn" Palette Knife Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"Marching into Autumn" ©2015 Niki Gulley
10" x 20" textured oil on canvas

I painted this colorful autumn scene near my home when the fall foliage was first starting to appear. I loved the vibrant reds, oranges and yellows of the cypress contrasted against the multitude of greens surrounding it. The patterns of the shadows underneath the trees created a sort of rhythm and I played up the angles of the trees and strokes to add to that feeling of a driving beat. I hope you, too, can feel the energy and joy of being surrounded by nature as autumn approaches.

New Cell Phone Cases and Brink of Spring Sunflowers - Nancy Medina Art

 Brink of Spring Sunflowers
by Nancy Medina
20X20
Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas

There's no time like the present to try to lump all the new things to do into one month, don't you agree? I launched a new web site, print store, and blog this month. I'm still polishing the sparkly bits and fluffing the fluffy parts, but most of the links are working most of the time now!

Simultaneously my busy spring teaching and travel period has begun and I'm packing for Fredericksburg, Texas, then Tennessee, then Louisiana (again!), then Tuscany, Italy. Negotiating multiple shipments of supplies to various locations involves a lot of brain cells. Never try this on less than two shots of espresso with whippy creme. Trust me on this.

And lest I forget the most important part of my message today, my new cell phone cases and pillows are here and I just love them! Yes their kitschy and cute and probably frivolous, but gosh they're fun. I gave away a few yesterday on my Facebook fan page, and will be giving away more soon! Click here to sign up for my next big giveaway!

"Resolute" Palette Knife Oil Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Resolute” ©2015 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24” x 18” textured oil painting

Just Sold! From our travels, I have become fascinated with the textures, hues and extreme variety we encounter in different terrains. I was intrigued by this one lone tree thriving in this rocky narrow canyon while only  receiving a few hours of sunshine a day. The unique striations and colors in the cliffs were amazing, too. Painted with palette knife and extremely thick oil paint, this painting is loaded with dimension, color and energy!

Sitting Pretty by Kay Wyne

Sitting Pretty
12" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
$575
This small painting was completed in the studio yesterday.  I need to sign it and let dry before framing it up.  I had lots of great colors on my palette, and loved playing with the roses, reds, corals, violets and greys.  My intention was to get the palette knife out, but stuck with my flat brush.    I mixed and mixed my colors for this painting, but was careful not to mix them on the canvas, just  putting the paint down, and not going back into it, making each stroke count.   Contact Kay for more info on this small floral arrangement.  Thanks, Kay

This little painting was painting with clean brushstrokes and thick oils.  I was using an old photograph of a floral arrangement that was given to daughter Lindsay...and simplified it, abstracted it on this small canvas.  I usually paint on large canvases but today I went for a perky little floral arrangement.  I wanted the colors to be crisp and vibrant.  Contact ME for purchasing info on this cute little painting.  The sides of the canvas are painted, so no frame is needed.  It is ready to hang on your wall!  Thanks, Kay
