Greece Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Day 4, Greece Art Trek:  Afternoon Location - Oia, Santorini
8" x 10" textured oil painting by Niki Gulley

That afternoon, we headed to the other end of the island, to the beautiful city of Oia. The painters chose to set up their easels by the lookout point at the edge of town, with some painting the windmills and skyline to our left and I chose this sprawling view of the city on the right. With a far more complicated scene, we had to allow a full afternoon and evening to capture the view. After so much white and blue architecture, I loved how several of the buildings were painted oranges, yellows and pinks contrasting agains the stark alabaster.

That evening we put down our brushes and let the photographers work on capturing the beautiful sunset, while we sat back and enjoyed the amazing view!

Next summer we will be leading an Art Trek to Spain and the following year we will be headed to Tuscany, England and Ireland, so if you've always dreamed of painting, photographing and sightseeing in Europe, please join us for one of these amazing trip! Day 4 of Greece Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Day 4, Greece Art Trek:  Morning Location - Akrotiri, Santorini
5" x 7" oil painting by Niki Gulley

On the fourth day of our Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop in Greece, we visited Akrotiri, the remains from a Minoan civilization preserved during the volcanic eruption from the 16th century BC. The ancient city was fascinating! The beach next door also made for a beautiful, relaxing painting location!

Painting and Photographing in Santorini, Greece with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Day 3, Greece Art Trek:  Santorini
7" x 5" oil painting by Niki Gulley

The next day we painted around the corner from hotel where we had this beautiful vantage point of the white domed church and the ocean below. The photographers viewed more of the town, while others relaxed at the pool at our hotel. That afternoon, we headed to a Santorini winery and sampled the local wines. Yum!

Taking a little time out to enjoy the view and sample the Greek wines, which are quite tasty!

Color of Summer by Kay Wyne

Color of Summer
10" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Landscape Painting
Pushing, pulling, scraping and laying in the oils with my palette knife gives this painting an impressionistic feeling.  I started with an underpainting using a brush.  After looking at it for a couple of months on my easel, I decided I needed to take a different approach and repainted it with the knife.  I am much more satisfied with the outcome, especially with the color relationships.  The burnt orange contrasting against the violet and greens makes it pop. The colors of the landscape remind me of how a hot and dry summer day feels....therefore, the name, "Color of Summer".  I can't wait to put a frame on this panel once I varnish it.  This painting will be for sale once it dries.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks, Kay

Misty by Kay Wyne

Misty
30" x 30" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting needs a handsome frame.
This palette knife painting has gone through many changes, with layers and layers of color.  I moved and pushed the paint around, changed the colors, changed the horizon line and the path.  It was a misty and moody day in Dallas...and I saw alot of the greys, lavenders and the start of spring green when I painted this.  It has an impressionistic feel to it.  I don't know how long it will take to dry, even with the impasto.....but I think it will look nice framed up.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog.....Kay
