Double Trouble - Abstract Diptych by Kay Wyne

(Diptych size: 40" x 60")
I have finished Double Trouble! This contemporary abstract was created to hang as one large piece, measuring 40" x 60", plus any wall space that might be in-between the two canvases. With this commission, I concentrated on the color palette, and once I established my colors, put some shapes and movement on the canvas. I used a large palette knife to apply the layers of oil colors. The soft colors over-lap and blend into each other. There is some texture on the surface, and you can see some choppy knife marks in the paint. I did use impasto to get some body into the oil paints. This painting is drying...and ready to hang! Summer Splash
Stay in Your Lane
October is off to a great start! I can already feel the "nip" in the
air here in Central Florida and it's really nice to be able to turn off
the air conditioner, open the doors and let the fresh air in.
We're finally settled into our new home after our move from Texas. The
move was a bit traumatic, to say the least. Hubby and I did all the
packing, unpacking, lifting and everything else associated with making a
cross country move, except drive the moving van! We love our new home
in its country setting...reminds me very much of our Texas home, except
with palm trees and sand hill cranes.
My studio is finally set up and I've finally started painting again.
What a pleasant surprise it was last night to get notices of two sales.
And, to make things even better, another painting sold this morning!
I just finished re-vamping my website and love the bigger images.

Cinco de Mayo measures
30"x30". This festively colored painting on canvas is stretched on

canvas and is enhanced with scratched out details that reveal underlying
layers of paint. The colorful liveliness and movement of the design
brings to mind the celebration of Mexican victory over French
occupation.

It's a Matter of Time

Sometimes what is beneath is as important
at what lies above. As I was working on this painting, certain areas
were a bit too saturated with paint. I decided to scrape some color off
and discovered that the underlying layers were more interesting. This
painting reminds me of metal that has been subjected to the ravages of
weather and rust, revealing a beauty that only comes with time.
It's a Matter of Time measures
36" x 36". This large, textural canvas is gallery-wrapped on 1.5" deep
bars. The sides have been painted in gray/black micaceous iron oxide.

Learning to listen to your inner voice is
an important part of being an artist, especially when painting
intuitively. This painting was part of a demonstration I did for one of
my workshops. It sat in my studio, staring at me, for a couple of
weeks. I sincerely meant to put it back up on the easel, but couldn't
shake the feeling that there was nothing more I could add to complete
it. So, after rotating the canvas several times, I finally saw it!
There is a vase of flowers sitting on a circular tablecloth and there
are a couple of pears to the left of the vase. Serendipity! The
painting practically painted itself and "told" me what it wanted to be!
Love when this happens!
