Soaking Up Sunshine
14" x 14" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
"Soaking Up Sunshine" is full of color and warmth.  This contemporary still life is very painterly, as I put a my strokes of color on the canvas, I left it alone.  You can see the brush strokes, as the color is vibrant and not muddy.  This small 14" x 14" gallery wrap canvas has the sides painted, so it is ready to hang. This happy and fun still life painting would make a wonderful Christmas gift for someone....contact ME for purchasing info.  Thanks, Kay Wyne

I See Dots by Kay Wyne

I See Dots
4" x 4" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
$50
Sometimes you have to paint just for the sake of painting...and that is what this little still life is all about, "I See Dots".  It is cute, colorful and looks great on a little easel.  It is so small that I had to search for some tiny brushes.  There is plenty of paint on here, so it needs to dry in the studio before I varnish and find a new home for it.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Have a great day.  Kay

Lovely Day by Kay Wyne

Lovely Day
8" x 8" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life
I have been into small still life paintings lately, and this one is drying on my easel.  I used a #12 Bright on this canvas, and was able to put down crisp, angular strokes.  No blending or fussing with it...I put a stroke of color down and left it.  I named this painting, "Lovely Day" because most person have lovely days when they give or receive bouquets of flowers.I am spending all of my time in the studio getting ready for a several juried shows and one three-woman show.  Feel free to contact me at MY EMAIL with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at the art posted on this blog.  Kay Wyne

Homegrown by Kay Wyne - Sold

Homegrown
Sold
8" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life Painting
Northern Michigan is beautiful in the summertime, and we just returned from a Charlevoix ten day family vacation. I took my easel, shipped my paints and had a grand time painting the landscape.Kay  The first day I arrived I found the most beautiful garden in the backyard of Chris Heroy's cottage.  I immediately went to visit her and get permission to set up in her yard.  Chris gave me a tour and snipped off some lovely homegrown roses and put in a beautiful antique glass jar. Here is a pic of Chris' roses.  Thank you to Gilda for purchasing "Homegrown"...this painting will have a new home in Little Rock, Arkansas!  Thanks for looking at this blog...more Michigan paintings are coming!  Contact Kay for more info on my art.  KMW

Jousting for Light

Lots of sunlight beaming in through the window today. Painting today a stuffed Elephant. At first I thought I didn't have enough time and it was to late and missed my chance for the day, bummer. I pondered a bit on doing one anyway without the magnificent light show that I've been seeing this month and almost decided to move on and do something else.

Oh wait, what's this, sure enough it showed up with a vengeance. I literally had to set up in under a couple minutes trying to fully think ahead, grabbing my easel, a panel, my tripod for my pochade box setup on my right. Grabbed my scraper since I found out I forgot to scrap the palette, grabbed the brush container, oh paper towels, add more white and blue to the palette, walnut oil set out to make my paint flow like butter, positioned the panel so it was pretty much next to the scene, gloves on, standing and ready to do battle. I commenced to sketch out the form using a pale purple mix and noting where the highlights were going to stay, oh it's a rush!! Filled in the shadows and color in the form, chair seat, highlight on the form some minor attempts to get the hat correct, was not easy. By now it's about 15-20 minutes into the painting, no time to think about time, not even on my radar, everything is oblivious to me at this point. The light of course has dramatically shifted by now as well as all values, glad I locked it in at the first. Oh wait a minute, I had laid in the banding on the chair cushion that ran from bottom right to left and up the left side to the middle of the panel. I thought it would add a nice touch but quickly decided it didn't add to the composition so I knocked it out, and signed bottom left, "Kirby". A much simpler composition that looked great. Now you see the completed painting, "Jousting for Light" in under 25 minutes I'm guessing.

Still Life

Oil on Belgian Linen Panel

Price: $150 + s/h

Since the Gulf of Mexico has now moved inland,  I decided to paint inside. Scenes around the house in interesting light always attract me to paint them. This one was one of those. Time of day more towards the evening on an overcast day with light coming through the south facing window onto the washer.

Our utility room is quite big and had a nice area to setup just in view of the doorway and lucky to have had a light to light up my palette and painting as I painted without causing in more added light to the scene I wanted to paint.

Price $150 + s/h

Another late night painting the storage room. Really liking the texture on this particular Linen. Below view of the setup. Had an easier time getting the lighting setup so I could see the painting as I painted it. The lighting outside of the room was pretty dark compared to inside the storage room.

Sitting Pretty by Kay Wyne

Sitting Pretty
12" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
$575
This small painting was completed in the studio yesterday.  I need to sign it and let dry before framing it up.  I had lots of great colors on my palette, and loved playing with the roses, reds, corals, violets and greys.  My intention was to get the palette knife out, but stuck with my flat brush.    I mixed and mixed my colors for this painting, but was careful not to mix them on the canvas, just  putting the paint down, and not going back into it, making each stroke count.   Contact Kay for more info on this small floral arrangement.  Thanks, Kay

Perky by Kay Wyne

Perky
8" x 8" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This little painting was painting with clean brushstrokes and thick oils.  I was using an old photograph of a floral arrangement that was given to daughter Lindsay...and simplified it, abstracted it on this small canvas.  I usually paint on large canvases but today I went for a perky little floral arrangement.  I wanted the colors to be crisp and vibrant.  Contact ME for purchasing info on this cute little painting.  The sides of the canvas are painted, so no frame is needed.  It is ready to hang on your wall!  Thanks, Kay

This is one of my new contemporary floral still life paintings that is drying at the studio.  It has beautiful violets, muted whites, greys and olive greens in thick layers of oils.  The background has shades of pink, lavendar and greys that were brushed on and blended.  This painting would look great framed up and hung in  a bedroom or living area.  Contact ME for more info on this painting.  Thanks for looking!

Framed in a simple gold but elegant frame, this still life painting is full of interesting flowers, ceramics, fabric and fruit.  The light hitting the peonies are as dramatic as the cast shadows.  I remember painting this...I thought the set-up was so beautiful.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks, Kay

Well, just in case you didn't know that you can see this fine specimen of a cactus on the shores of San Luis Pass on the Galveston Island side next to the bay. Take the off road trail and drive down till you hit the water and hang a left and somewhere close you'll find it.

Joyful by Kay Wyne

Joyful
20" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting is still on my easel, but I signed it and it needs to dry.  I put out greens, whites and grays and mixed piles and piles of paint on my palette, grabbed the palette knife and started with my darks first.  I pushed and pulled the paint, added a small amount of raw umber and cad red to the palette.  I had not planned on going this far with the painting, but once I started, I couldn't stop.  I have a beautiful frame to put on it...will post it framed up when it dries.  Contact Kay for purchasing information.
Thanks for looking.  KMW

Once in a blue moon I'll do a interior painting. This just caught my eye the lighting hitting the floor with some boards laying down and some other misc stuff off to the side. Below is a shot of my easel while painting the scene. I tried to keep the light that I used from lighting up the scene I was painting but I needed some light to see while I was painting so it made for a bit of a lighting challenge. I could tell the light lightened up a little bit of the scene but for the most part it is pretty close.

Foul Play

This one is a different viewpoint than the others, can you tell? I was going to do a similar view point that I've done before but it just wasn't exiting me enough. After moving some things around on the desk I looked over at the stack of boxes and saw this viewpoint. Ahaa!! I then stacked it up to head level balancing on some cardboard boxes while I painted it. This is a Kumquat, they are popular over in Orient and from what I've learned should be eaten whole as the skin is sweet. I haven't tried this one but I will find out...Below is a photo of the setup, Stacked way up high.

Mandarin and Tea

Mandarin's the small orange. They are pretty good. I have had better. There's one similar in size called a Halo which is really good when there in season. Believe it or not, there's a Mandarin Tea out there. Below is a shot of the painting while I painted it. I'm using just some boxes to raise them up to about shoulder high. I've been standing up to paint these which in of itself is a challenge but it's paying off since I can step back move around a bit to refresh my view.

Lemon and Tea

I'm definitely a tea drinker who likes lemon in his tea. Especially Iced Tea. Born and raised on it. I don't use lemon that often only if it's during the summer or eating out and organic is the one to get. Meyer lemons are great. This one I cut and halved the slice paired with a green tea. Below is the setup I used this time raised about foot and half from the normal perspective and a black sketch book as the background.
