"Journey in Time" Santa Fe Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

"Journey in Time," Santa Fe, NM ©2016 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 12" x 24" textured oil painting

Just Sold! This church, Canyoncito, near Santa Fe, NM is so charming that I decided to paint it in the setting around it to add to that idyllic feel. I loved how the brilliant white of the stucco and the red roof made the church stand out against all of the greenery and blue sky. Choosing the panorama format helps to set the scene and adding long shadows from the left, leads your eye into the composition and to the focal point.

Painting at Canyoncito.

"Journey in Time" Santa Fe Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

"Journey in Time," Santa Fe, NM ©2016 Niki Gulley

12" x 24" textured oil painting

On the final day of our Santa Fe Art Trek, we headed to this quiet dead end road to paint the church at Canyoncito. The only traffic we saw all morning was one car and 2 bicyclists, which allowed us to really concentrate on the scene. The church is so charming that I decided to paint it in the setting around it to add to that idyllic feel. I loved how the brilliant white of the stucco and the red roof made the church stand out against all of the greenery and blue sky. Just Sold - "Scenic Route" Palette Knife Oil Painting by Dallas Artist Niki Gulley

“Scenic Route” ©2015 Niki Gulley

SOLD • Textured Oil Painting on wrap around canvas • 20” x 60”

My husband and I love exploring the back roads whenever we’re en route somewhere. We always discover such interesting places, and the scenery is so much more picturesque than along the highway. It’s fun to slow down and enjoy the journey with no agenda, which is what I had in mind when I painted “Scenic Route,” a beautiful autumn drive through the winding fall foliage.

If you're in the Dallas area this coming weekend and you'd like to see more of my palette knife landscape paintings in person, please stop by my booth at the Cottonwood Art Festival.

Afternoon Delight by Kay Wyne

Afternoon Delight

12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel

Contemporary Floral Landscape

I was back in the studio yesterday, and got my palette knife out and created this painting.  The paint is layered on the panel, giving it texture and depth.  I moved the paint around quite a bit once it was on the panel.  The horizon line was changed numerous times...I wanted it to fade into the background, and needed to mix my oils over and over to get a hazy far-away look. I hope the viewer will feel good looking at this painting, as if he/she is standing in the field on a beautiful, delightful afternoon.  Thanks for looking at this painting.....contact Kay for more info on this painting.  KMW
