Contemporary Abstract by Kay Wyne

Untitled
Contemporary Abstract
48" x 60" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Mixed Media
This painting is finished, and is drying in the studio.  It's interesting that I see different things in this painting than others do.  I started with a roadmap of Texas.  About half way through the painting my husband saw a map of the United States.  My cousin sees a big mouth bass (Big Billy Bass) in it, and one of my studio mates see a vase with flowers in abundance covering the entire canvas.  Let me know if you have a title suggestion for this one.  I love the colors, lines and shapes that flow from each other.  I used oils, oil bars and charcoal on this one.  So it is a mixed media piece.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay for more info.  Kay Wyne

Crowd Pleaser by Kay Wyne

Crowd Pleaser
48" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
"Crowd Pleaser" is signed, and drying at the studio...Starting this painting with transparent washes, I had a couple of ideas in mind for this rather large canvas.  I have been wanting to paint a large floral landscape, then I thought it was about time to paint some roosters.  In the end, a very abstract floral landscape appears...but one very different from what I was working on in the beginning.

My husband, John said that it looks like a crowd of people, and along with the pleasant colors I used, he suggested the title.  I am alway open to suggestions when it comes to naming my canvases...and I thought he nailed it.  "Crowd Pleaser" works for me!   Layers of mixed colors applied with brushes, allow the canvas to have paint built up in some areas.  This painting is available for purchase...contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Busy Busy by Kay Wyne

Busy Busy
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
Layers of grey blues covered the canvas in the beginning, then I applied fresh color with the palette knife, scraping it back.  After several sessions with this canvas I pulled out a wide brush and some oil sticks drawing in lines and shapes.  That gave the painting movement on the canvas, adding interest and depth.   I pushed and pulled the paint around, moving it until I was satisfied.  Once I stood back from my easel I could see that the corals, pinks and oranges gave it energy.  The blues, greens and turquoise are cooler and give the painting balance along with a variety of lines, brush strokes, palette knife.  There are hints of yellow and creamy yellow in the painting....hidden under the layers.  The sides of the canvas are painted in the grey-blue color, and framing is optional.  Ready to have a new home, BUSY BUSY will be dry and varnished, ready for purchase soon.  Contact Kay Wyne for more information.  Thanks, KMW

Abstract by Kay Wyne

Abstract (untitled)
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Day #3 in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge
I loved working on this canvas...I mixed and mixed piles of juicy oils before I started, as I wanted to keep my colors toned down and in control.  I started with a light grey background, including the sides of the canvas.  Then I roughed in my design with a filbert before I started with the palette knife.  I have a companion canvas that you will see tomorrow, so both canvases can stand alone or it can hang as a diptych.  There are layers and layers of paint, along texture.  I haven't decided on a title yet...any suggestions would be appreciated!  Thanks for looking at my art.  Kay

The Comb-Over by Kay Wyne

The Comb-Over
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Rooster and Chicken Series
$100
This colorful and fun chickie is my neighbor, and lives in the Dallas city limits, just across the alley.  I thought her comb was interesting, and I like the way it flops to one side...kind of like a comb-over.  I need to ask my neighbors what her name is.  This painting is drying at the studio, but if you would like to give The Comb-Over a new home, contact Kay.  Thanks for looking at my art, and good luck to all the artists participating in the painting challenge.  We are more than 3/4 of the way finished with Leslie's challenge!  Kay

Flutter by Kay Wyne

Flutter
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Today's post is a canvas that I painted several months ago, and it is finally dry.  This dragonfly is abstract and colorful.  I love painting with the palette knife---pushing the paint around, scraping and building the layers up.  I am getting ready to do a palette knife demo this week, so that will be fun.  I have been working on projects in the studio, but don't have a new one to post today.  Thanks for looking....contact Kay for comments or questions.  Thanks, Kay
