Niki Gulley Featured Artist at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX

“Tuscan Dreams" ©2016 Niki Gulley
24" x 24" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Inspired from a wonderful trip to Tuscany, I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of joy and energy. Set beneath a colorful sky with a few clouds drifting by on a beautiful day in springtime, the poppies and wildflowers are in full bloom. Using broken impressionistic strokes in surprising hues, causes the landscape to dance and flow, and I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

You can paint and photograph these very views if you join us for our Tuscany Workshop in 2017. Don’t miss out on an amazing trip! Space is filling up quickly and there are just a few spaces left. See art treks.org for details or e-mail Niki Gulley for more information.

For more information on Tuscan Dreams or more of my contemporary impressionistic landscape paintings, please see my new works at the Good Art Company Gallery, goodartcompany.com/gac/. I am honored to be one of their featured artists this month, and I hope you can visit with me at the artist reception on March 4th.

This was fun and challenging painting this little lady in my palette of colors.

Ben Konis (wonderful artist from Amarillo, Texas) always said, "if the value is right, the color is right".  I never painted another tree trunk brown.

New Textured Lavender Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

SOLD • “Uplifting Fragrance," Tuscany ©2015 Niki Gulley
24" x 12" textured mixed media painting on wrap around canvas

Just sold through the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. The lavender fields in Provence are incredible – perfectly manicured rows and rows of an explosion of violet as far as the eye can see. I wanted to try something different in this painting, arranging the purple waves vertically to draw your eye up to the stone farmhouse perched on top of one of the distant hills. Wispy clouds mirror similar patterns as the lavender columns and create a harmony between foreground and background, while perspective lines all converge at the summit, leading you to this joyful, peaceful spot. I hope you can smell the amazing aromas and  feel your spirits lifted while gazing into this scene!

For the month of March,  I will be one of the featured artists at the Good Art Company. Several of my new palette knife paintings from our travels not only in Italy, but closer to home, around the state of Texas will be on display. If interested in more information or visiting the artist reception on March 4th, please contact goodartcompany.com/gac/. I hope to see you there!

Just Sold - "Leading the Way," Tuscany - Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

SOLD • "Leading the Way," Tuscany ©2015 Niki Gulley
24" x 12"" textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas

Just sold through the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. Inspired by our travels to Italy, cypress trees rise out of the rolling landscape signaling that you have arrived in Tuscany. Arranging the trees in diagonal patterns, they beckon you to travel down the path they line while softly drifting clouds repeat the shape of the dirt road and create a harmony, leading you into the distance where something amazing may lie. You only need to venture forth to find out!

For the month of March,  I will be one of the featured artists at the Good Art Company. Several of my new palette knife paintings from our travels not only in Italy, but closer to home, around the state of Texas will be on display. New "Sunny Dreams" Palette Knife Sunflower Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Sunny Dreams" ©2016 Niki Gulley
24" x 12" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Inspired by our travels to Provence, I painted these cheerful sunflowers with extremely thick oil paint and palette knife so that the resulting image leaps off the canvas and is loaded with energy, color and texture.

Go With The Flow by Kay Wyne

Go With The Flow
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
(I may need to adjust the color as it is somewhat lighter as I
look at the painting and compare it to the photo.
Or, it could be my computer.)
This palette knife painting is drying on my easel in the studio.  I put the title, "Go With The Flow" on it because as I layered the oils and moved the paint on the canvas it was obvious that I need to go with the flow, and let it happen.
This is a close-up of the palette knife work....layers of color, leaving knife edges and forming shapes.  Lots of fracturing going on, and some texture.  But the neatest part of the painting is the color.  The colors are beautiful, and they flow very well from one grey to a violet to a magenta to a red to an orange and then the neutrals.  There are some punches of turqoise and blue in there.  I mixed piles and piles of oils on my palette as I made my way through this painting.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks, KMW

New "Kid's Perspective II" Palette Knife Aspen Tree painting by Niki Gulley

"Kid's Perspective II" ©2016 Niki Gulley
36" x 36" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting, I wanted you to you to experience the joy of looking up into the treetops – just like you did when you were a kid. Lying on the ground, not a care in the world, you gaze in wonderment as the clouds drift by. Choosing playful colors and thick chunky staccato strokes add to that childlike whimsy and I hope you are transported back to a happy, carefree time and place.

New "A Touch of Gold" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

“A Touch of Gold" ©2016 Niki Gulley
30" x 40" textured oil on canvas

Scrolling bark peels back like white washed parchment revealing secrets in the deeply textured wood below. A painting of grace and beauty, its verticality offset by embracing branches wound round as a sheltering arm. Each stroke is crisp, vivid, defined by thick textured oil, rich colors contrasted against subtle ivories strike a reververberating chord and creating a visual vibration that resonates in an optical song.

E-mail Niki Gulley for more information on her textured aspen and birch oil paintings.

New "Nature's Ascent" Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Nature's Ascent" ©2016 Niki Gulley
12" x 16" textured oil painting

I created "Nature's Ascent" on another beautiful day this fall at one of my favorite painting spots near our home. I was attracted to the colorful dappled light raking across these steps and hillside, beckoning you to ascend. Meanwhile this majestic sycamore stands tall in its fall glory, also inviting you into the distance to discover what's beyond. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this landscape is filled with color, movement and energy!

Autumn at the Lake by Ann McCann 11 X 14 Oil

This is a plein air painting that I did at White Rock Lake in Dallas.  I recently re-worked it with a knife (lots of paint!) and heightened the color.  We really do get some intense leaf color here in late November.  Love the bright oranges/reds of the trees against the blue of water and sky!

New Autumn Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Exploring the Woods II" ©2016 Niki Gulley
12" x 18" textured oil painting

I created "Exploring the Woods II" on another beautiful day this fall at one of my favorite painting spots near our home. The kaleidoscope of autumn colors was ablaze, and I was attracted to the dappled light sneaking through small gaps in the forested canopy, illuminating the winding path and brilliant grasses below. Playing off of the diagonal shadows on the ground and the zig zag arrangement of the trunks, I feel like the patterns create a kind of rhythm, adding to the sounds in the woods in this canvas. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this landscape is filled with color, movement and energy!

New "Exploring the Woods" Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Exploring the Woods" ©2016 Niki Gulley
12" x 18" textured oil painting

I painted "Exploring the Woods" on a beautiful fall day at one of my favorite spots near our home. The brilliant gold and tangerine leaves were glowing from the sun backlighting them, and the gnarly tree trunks were forming an intricate web that I just had to capture. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this landscape is filled with color, movement and energy!

New "Chit Chat" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

“Chit Chat" ©2016 Niki Gulley
30" x 48" textured oil painting

Shimmering in golden light, this backlit grove of aspen trees reaches tall, leaning left and then right towards the sun as it grew. The peeling trunks almost seem to move, even chatting with one another. A few trees weren't so lucky and lay fallen at their feet, while the whole scene is filled with color, texture and movement to suggest the power of nature and its ability to enhance your spirit.

New "Song of the Woods" Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

"Song of the Woods"  ©2016 Niki Gulley
30" x 40" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Shimmering colors of autumn: Aspen and Oak trees quiver, their light graceful leaves tremble and quake, silver and gold, scarlet and tangerine, with each light breeze. There is the quiet energy of change coming and vibrant color charges the woods. Crisp fall mountain air, a band of slender trunks cut bright strokes of white against a dazzling kaleidoscope of colors. Staccato strokes and shimmering hues add to the feeling of change in the air and suggest the breeze whistling through the foliage.
